We know Aerith as a pure flower girl. But some fans believe “flower girl” is a euphemism.
Some fans don’t believe she only sells flowers on the street of the Midgar slums. She only charges 1 gil per flower. Aerith sells some flowers to unknown men outside of the Honeybee Inn for 500 gil. This sounds a bit suspicious.
Flower could be a symbol of virginity, as “deflowering” is the act of “losing one’s/taking someone’s virginity”. This euphemism works across cultures.
The title reads:
“Aerith, chastity in danger!?!!
“‘貞操” signifies “chastity” which could mean:
- abstention from unlawful sexual intercourse
- abstention from all sexual intercourse
- purity in conduct and intention
- restraint and simplicity in design or expression
The image itself refers to the scene where Hojo forces Aerith and Red XIII into the same containment tank. Chastity might imply “abstention from beastiality”.
As noted in TVTropes, one of the men also says that Aerith told him that she wouldn’t go out with him for even 1000 gil. Maybe this means Aerith is just playful, even innocent.
Aerith doesn’t join the Honeybee Inn. She’s able to dress alluringly. She doesn’t engage with any of the men outside of that establishment. Can she still be a prostitute?
