Thanks to IkariLoona for the inspiration!
Final Fantasy is no stranger to retconning the storylines of games to make way for new concepts. Final Fantasy XIII, while conceived as a trilogy, did a lot to retroactively fit events into the past games. Yet, it’s not just Final Fantasy XIII. Final Fantasy X-2 does this with Final Fantasy VII. And Final Fantasy XII also does this with Final Fantasy Tactics. But how about Final Fantasy XIII to…Final Fantasy V! This is what IkariLoona believes:
There’s some mention in FF5 on how its crystals the characters get job abilities from are based on those of heroes from the past. In FF13 characters who fulfill their focus turn into crystal, and some of the game’s achievements reference the veteran group of warriors from FF5. FF5 is also the game that opened the way for a FF multiverse through the Interdimensional Rift.
Therefore I cant help but wonder if retroactively the FF5 crystals are formed from people from the XIII setting who fulfilled their focus and got crystallized, enabling them to pass one their abilities to other worlds in the multiverse that need them.
As far as we know, the Fabula Crystallis Nova series doesn’t extend beyond Final Fantasy XIII. But IkariLoona has a point, Final Fantasy paved the way for the Final Fantasy multiverse with the Interdimensional Rift. And wouldn’t you know it? The Interdimensional Rift and the Void have retroactively made their way Final Fantasy I and III. So why not the concepts for Final Fantasy XIII?
So then, does this mean that all Warriors of Light chosen by the crystals have a focus? In this sense, all Warriors of Light would be L’Cie.
This raises a question: what were the first Warriors of Light’s focus? If we go back to the first Final Fantasy, it was to stop evil in the world. They don’t know what this evil in the world is. How could they, the Fal’Cie don’t tell them their focus. They have to find out for themselves.
The first few jobs you receive from the Wind Crystal are of the original Warriors of Lights’ jobs. But the other job classes? They must have fought Enuo. When did they fight Enuo? I would say sometime before Final Fantasy III, as characters have more jobs at their command.
Who was Enuo? According to the Final Fantasy Wikia:
One thousand years ago Enuo, an immortal wizard, traded his immortality for control over the Void. With the power of nothingness under his control, he wreaked havoc across Planet R. Eventually he was defeated by the power of the twelve Sealed Weapons and consumed by the Void. The Void was contained in the Interdimensional Rift, and the Crystals of element that sustain the world were split so the world itself would split into two.
Once the planet was split, the entrance to the Rift became caught out of reach in the space between the worlds, so that no evil could use the dark power of the Void again. Though he was consumed by the Void, Enuo’s essence lives on in the Sealed Temple within the Void itself.
