Balthier is Ivalice’s infamous Sky Pirate, and the self-proclaimed “the leading man” of Final Fantasy XII. Throughout his travels, he’s accompanied by Fran. During their attempt to steal from the Royal Palace of Rabanastre, Balthier and Fran become apart of an international conflict involving political intrigue and Occuria.
But when in the timeline did Materia call Balthier to World B? Perhaps not even during Final Fantasy XII’s timeline. Balthier appears in Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions. However, Final Fantasy Tactics takes place 1000 years into Balthier’s time. How does Balthier end up in Mining Town of Gollund? Even Balthier doesn’t know:
Balthier: Who do you think you’re talking to? The leading man never balks at a little danger. Though, this does have more the feel of a cameo role…Nonetheless, I have my reasons for seeking that particular treasure. I found it once – laid my hands on it, and look where it’s gotten me. If I find it again, I can put things back as they were. And since you seem to know something of it, you’ve gained yourself another traveling companion.
However, there isn’t a likely scenario for Balthier’s time skip. He simply appears in Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions’ Ivalice. It could have something to do with the Cache of Glabados. The Cache of Glabados contained three crystals. While not directly stated, the crystals themselves could have time travel properties. And sometime during his time skip, he probably arrives in World B.
