Thanks to Gold_Jacobson for the post!
So why did Jecht sacrifice himself to become the Final Aeon? Why did he become Sin? Was he so desperate to his journey? Gold_Jacobson thinks so…
I believe I stumbled upon the real reason that Jecht sacrificed himself to become the Final Aeon, to save a world that wasn’t even his, letting Auron escape such a fate…
His feet hurt like a bitch and there was no way he was walking across Spira again.
Jecht didn’t wear shoes during his whole journey across Spira.
He stepped on coral in Besaid, got splinters on the Kilika docks, stubbed his toes on Mushroom Rock Road, got his foot stepped on by a Shoopuff, walked through the Snow to Macalania, trudged through the ice of Mt. Gagazet, and got tetanus from a rusty pipe at Zanarkand. There was no way in hell he was going to now go back and do it again. First chance for the sweet release of death, become an Aeon, whatever, he took it.
The predicament was all Jecht’s fault though. It all started when Braska recruited him. Braska offered him some shoes and a sword. But, being the tough guy he is, he said, Pfff, I don’t need shoes. What do you take me for, ya’know? Of course, he started regretting that right away but he had too much pride to admit it.
So that is why Jecht became the Final Aeon and not Auron. However, because Jecht never had shoes, he became the Sin to end all Sins. If he had worn shoes, he might not have offered to become the Final Aeon and Spira’s cycle of death would have been never-ending.
I hope you all now have a greater appreciation for the character Jecht and his feet.
I have nothing more to add. I found it pretty funny and just wanted to share!
