Read my lips—mercy is for wimps! There’s a reason ‘oppose’ rhymes with ‘dispose’…If they get in your way, kill them!
No introduction is needed for Final Fantasy’s most deranged villain.
Antisocial Personality Disorder. People with antisocial personality disorder characteristically act out their conflicts and ignore normal rules of social behavior. These individuals are impulsive, irresponsible, and callous. Typically, the antisocial personality has a history of legal difficulties, belligerent and irresponsible behavior, aggressive and even violent relationships. They show no respect for other people and feel no remorse about the effects of their behavior on others. These people ware at high risk for substance abuse, especially alcoholism, since it helps them to relieve tension, irritability and boredom.
This shouldn’t be surprising. Kefka obviously disregards other people because he doesn’t believe anyone, or anything, matters in the world. He has a very sociopathic outlook on the world we anyone can be used, which he uses to his advantage in the form of persistent lying, stealing (the lives of Espers), using aliases and conning others (especially in the battle against General Leo). Kefka is above the law at times and only rebuked by another sociopath (Emperor Gestahl) who pardons him to fulfill his own ambitions. And his defining trait, his need to cause destruction, is based on his impulsive behavior (which he makes no apology for).
Although initially, Kefka seems lighthearted, his true nature is maniacal, short-tempered, flamboyant, destructive, and cruel. This is a result of him having been made into a Magitek Knight. He is a psychopath with no regard for human life nor remorse for the atrocities he commits, and revels in the suffering of others. He cracks dark jokes, breaks out into hysterical laughter upon causing mayhem, and his only joy is causing senseless destruction, death, and chaos. Kefka doesn’t even consider destruction fun unless lives are lost in the process.
Surprisingly, Kefka learns from his past behavior. In a world where everything is meaningless, nothing matters – even his past actions. Of course, if nothing matters, neither do atonement or forgiveness…so he doesn’t seek it. Instead, he simply fades away…
