Thanks to ScarletEmperor591 for the inspiration!
For all of the fans who try to connect the Final Fantasy worlds, some of us miss how they connect. Do they connect through a shared continuous timeline on one planet? Or do they each take place in a different world?
Using the examples for the airships, ScarletEmperor591 theorizes maybe they take place in a shared timeline:
This topic has been bugging me for a while with too many things from one universe to another connecting plus clouds sword in FF8 and Cloud himself appear in tactics. I know this is a bold claim to say so instead of the FF Universe being multiple worlds instead of being well… a Multiverse claims that each game takes place a different time period from FF1 to FF15 (Yet to come out also).
Let’s take FF1 and FF2 to example the Airship from FF1 was an ancient device used for high-speed travel across the world I believe it was rediscovered by Cid who later integrate it into a transport service. Years later in FF4 the advancement of the airships went to the Red Wing fleet. Of course, Kefka’s rampage mostly damaged or destroyed the world.
Years later another man named Cid from FF7 to rebuild the first airship of the New Era which brought a string up to FFX where again SIN tried to destroy the world take a time skip of nearly 1000 years or so and then FFX takes place with the Al Bhed trying to recover a lost airship and finally get it done. A year or so later Airships are now somewhat common with FFX-2 after the fall of SIN.
Lastly, FF13 has shown that the airships are not just shown there are multiple types of them fighters, battleships and capital ships. In short, this is just an example of a FF Airship timeline if you got anything to add please do so and help support or leave your option of this theory.
Interesting! ScarletEmperor591 points out that “years later” a Cid would come along and rebuild the airships. In this sense, Final Fantasy worlds connect through a Timeline. Is it a continuous, linear timeline? Is each story simply a “snapshot” in the timeline?
Of course, this isn’t a multiverse. If they were a multiverse, each Final Fantasy would be apart of their own universe. This fits the concept of Sakaguchi’s standalone games and matches what’s happening the Dissidia games. At least, in theory. We know Final Fantasy VII and X take place on different worlds. It’s possible all Final Fantasy games, or at least most, take place on another world. If this is the case, what’s to say they couldn’t have their own universe or alternate realities?
I don’t have all of the answers, and it’s definitely debatable.
What do you think?
