Thanks to Dinoken for the inspiration!
In I-V, it manifested as the crystals. I cannot remember what it was in VI (and VI is one of the games I don’t know world lore enough to figure it out). VII was the lifestream, VIII’s lifestream leaked into the world in the form of draw points, IX had a crystal. X had the Farplane and the Pyreflies. I don’t know the MMOs very well, but there are a couple of things it could be in XII from the Mist to the Nethicite, to the Occuria themselves, Not sure what it was in XIII, but XV has its own crystal.
Crystals? In my Lifestream?
It may be more common than you think. In fact, it happens in our world all the time. For example, lava consists of crystalline rocks. From a narrative perspective, the Lifestream is like oil, the Planet’s lifeblood. However, from a scientific perspective, it also has connotations to magma. When the hot slush of magma cools, crystals remain. What Dinoken2 suggest is that every Final Fantasy has their own version of the Lifestream. And much like our world, the Lifestream creates Crystals.
Whether they were on different worlds, or the same one, the process could be similar. And in each Final Fantasy game, the Lifestream takes on a different form. So for example, the Draw Points our character siphon magic out of is a Lifestream. Pyreflies are a type of Lifestream that Shirna is able to manipulate. Mist could be the gaseous form of the Lifestream. And we can assume Final Fantasy I – VI and IX have a Lifestream due to their respective Crystals.
But the one outlier is Final Fantasy XIII. In that game, people turn into crystalline objects. This isn’t to say that they don’t have a Lifestream; they could. What it means is that there might be other evidence for a Lifestream besides the Crystals themselves.
Either way, what do you think?
