I liked seeing the Burmecians “Gary” and “Gray” respectively. They’re rats. And I was born on the year of the Rat.
And then Zero1950 talked about having a Final Fantasy IX remake…in HD!!
I also spoke about this with Aruu, namely: “BTW, how might any of you feel about Final Fantasy IX if they remade the game with realistically proportioned character models?” Aruu wouldn’t mind a Dissidia style update, which might add to its old whimsical style.
The first two hours in Alexandria alone give the player a lot to do with side quests. So, they could add more side quests, I guess?
The battle system isn’t as slow as I thought it was. The character models are expressive (and sometimes hilarious!) in battle. I smoothed the textures on my PS2. The character models become less grainy. I can see facial features more clearly! I guess all they would really have to do is update the graphics.
Then it hit me. Updating Final Fantasy IX to new-gen standards would defeat the purpose of what Final Fantasy IX tried to be. Final Fantasy IX bridged the gap between old and new school players of Final Fantasy, providing nostalgia from the past. That’s why I think Final Fantasy IX has to remain a PS1 title. Final Fantasy IX is like a period piece, or a benchmarker, as to what Final Fantasy was…
I hear Final Fantasy IX was originally a spin-off title and was nostalgic for the sake of evoking nostalgia. And unlike VII & VIII, IX has an old school Sakaguchi feel to it found in I – VI. Final Fantasy IX would lose both the old school aesthetics and the PlayStation 1 nostalgia it built up over the years?
Remakes are for fixing flaws and renovating old games. Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VIII need a remake. I don’t think FFIX can justify one. What do you think?
