That Etro, Cosmos, Altana, Hydaelyn, et al. are all the same deity. She travels the Void, creating all these worlds pursued relentlessly by Chaos who mucks up her worlds time and again. The different creation myths and stories in each FF are just the mortals’ interpretations of the true cosmic battle going on above their comprehension.
First, for those who don’t know, who are these deities? Going in order:
Etros
is a goddess in the Fabula Nova Crystallis: Final Fantasy series. She is a key character in the mythos, being the one who provided the material from which humans were made, and the one who protects the balance between the mortal world and the afterlife. The director of Final Fantasy XIII and its sequels, Motomu Toriyama, has stated that while Etro is the same deity across the games of the series, her roles in the different games vary greatly.
However, instead of Etro, I think the Prima Goddess would actually be Mwynn, Bhunivelze mother (who he killed to take full control of the Mortal World).
Cosmos
is the goddess of harmony who opposes Chaos in the original Dissidia Final Fantasy and its prequel Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy. She is one of few completely original characters to appear in the Dissidia series, the others being Feral Chaos, Materia and Spiritus.
Altana
is a Goddess from Final Fantasy XI. Altana is the Dawn Goddess and creator of Vana’diel.
Hydaelyn
is the world of Final Fantasy XIV where Eorzea is located. It shares its name with the goddess and Mothercrystal who guides the adventurer.
Goddess
is a boss in Final Fantasy VI. She is a member of the Warring Triad, and one of the three final bosses in Kefka’s Tower before facing Kefka himself. According to the Final Fantasy III Nintendo Player’s Guide, the final battle sequence against the Statue of the Gods is supposed to be a rematch of the Warring Triad; the second tier being Goddess. No official material support this, however; the idea was created by Nintendo of America.
Minerva
is a character from Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII-. She is implied to be related to Gaia’s consciousness, and is interpreted by Genesis Rhapsodos as the goddess of LOVELESS.
I don’t know too much about Final Fantasy XI or XIV, but I can see a connection. If there was a universe myth, it would be one of Order and Chaos. Each Final Fantasy has a battle between the Light and the Void. Dissidia portrays this well.
