Can you believe that Vaan is 17 years old? So there’s no reason for him to wear a tiny boy vest. He’s no longer eight, he should put this stuff behind him. Aside from Penelo, most of his friends are kids younger than him. That still doesn’t excuse the child vest. This screams man-child, a person who refuses to grow up. He’s been an orphan for most of his life. He’s a street orphan who has to use his wits to gather clothes and food. He should ditch the boy vest. Even if he has to walk around shirtless, he shouldn’t wear a vest that comes up to his nipples. Perhaps his’s cosplaying as Disney’s Aladdin? But even Aladdin wore an adult vest, not a tiny boy vest.
One of the weirdest things about Ivalice characters happens to be their armor. None of the soldiers where armor around their vital areas. But all of them wear heavy leg armor. Why? What is out their in the world that requires soldiers to wear leg armor? Just outside of Dalmasca is a giant T-Rex. While his tail whips at their legs, wouldn’t they be more concerned about it eating them?
Vaan wears heavy leg armor in hot weather. So wouldn’t his legs sweat massively? This is metal armor, which traps in heat. Besides looking bottom heavy, it’s just not practical in this scenario. None of the metal he wears is very practical. Whereas other characters wear buckles, belts, zippers, straps, and lace, Ivalice is metal heavy. In fact, it’s almost more so a fashion statement than a necessity. But it’s unclear why Vaan needs it.
In later games, like Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift, he wears a longer vest and a shirt. Why isn’t he wearing a shirt in the previous editions?
