Oh, God does Gladio loves Cup Noodles. He’s really obsessed with them, looking for “THE ULTIMATE FLAVOR EXPERIENCE!”
at times [Gladio] fears he is not strong enough for the position of the future king’s shield.
But why would he be? He’s pretty bulk. He could do handstand pushups when he was younger. Plus:
Gladiolus is a cheerful person, contrasting with his imposing physique. Gladiolus has been a fan of the great outdoors since he was young, and has collected various Coleman camping equipment items. He enjoys fighting, and thus researches techniques and skills.
So why might he now have to question himself?
Might it be due to cup noodles?
I think it is.
The game doesn’t say this and I don’t think the developers meant it to be this way. But it’s an unintended consequence when dealing with one of the most unhealthy food products out there.
For those who’ve been lucky:
Cup Noodles (カップヌードル Kappu Nūdoru) is a brand of instant ramen noodle snack manufactured by Nissin, packaged in a foam food container, hard plastic or paper cup.
/r/finalfantasy has had a few ironic posts with us purchasing cup noodle, just like our friend Gladio. The irony is that the product placement was successful; if we buy a product because of the game, regardless of our intention, we become just a number to Nissin. We give in like Gladio gives in, so in that sense, we really are like Gladio.
Plus, we make an irrational purchase each time. It’s actually more cost effective to get the less expensive, more voluminous, package. It’s better for the environment too, as you won’t have to worry about styrofoam particles in landfills or your gut. They put the spice directly on the noodles in the cup version, making it unhealthier.
Speaking of our health, it really wrecks havoc on your body. And this is what’s holding Gladio back.
Cup noodles can make you fatter and slower. So that’s how Gladio lost to Ravus, a soldier with only one arm.
The contents contain very little nutritional value, a deficiency which can probably cause Gladio confusion and self-esteem problems. Plus, the noodles are hard to break down on one’s body.
The amount of sodium in cup noodles is higher than the suggested amount. And with how much Cup Noodles Gladio eats, he might be suffering from hypertension.
At least one thing Gladio is at less of risk for the Cardiometabolic syndrome. Women, not men, who ate instant noodles at least twice a week showed a 68% higher risk of metabolic syndrome. Then again, he seems to eat them all the time…
We’re usually smart about our purchases, so whether or not cup noodles is practicing irresponsible advertising by promoting a
“death” unhealthy product may not affect our health in the long run. But still, it makes you wonder why they think we, or Gladio, should eat it at all.
I can’t remember, but doesn’t Gladio stop eating Cup Noodle after his battle with Gilgamesh?
