According to Tabata, Noctis died in Eos and awoke in the afterlife. The afterlife is also their alternate world. We also know Final Fantasy XV was a “fantasy based on reality”. So what if Final Fantasy XVI is the inverse of this, a “reality based on fantasy”?
This is what I thought they were going for with Agni’s Philosophy:
Of course, this isn’t to say that Agni’s philosophy will be Final Fantasy XVI. But it’s not a stretch to assume this. Tabata based this concept on Final Fantasy, and it would be a shame to let this IP go to waste. Agni’s Philosophy is also among the most watch video on the Square Enix YouTube channels. On the North American and Japanese channels, Agni comes after the Final Fantasy VII remake. Quite a feat for a tech demo. The interest is there, perhaps they should capitalize on it?
What do we see here? We see a cult of magic, so far standard in Final Fantasy. It reminds me of the Cult of Kefka in a sense. But here’s where Final Fantasy XVI, excuse me, Agni’s Philosophy take a turn. We see who appear to be a terrorist storm the building and shoot the crowd. Pretty reminiscent of what some parts of the world experience on a daily basis. Speaking of which, look at the setting. It looks like North Africa, maybe even around the Arabic Peninsula. Suddenly, we have a greater understanding of the lore here than we do in Final Fantasy XVI. And this is because we’re able to recognize it as our world with fantasy elements.
Final Fantasy XV was different. It was a fantasy world with real-life elements. We knew the world was like our, but uncanny enough to be a fantasy world. With Final Fantasy XVI, maybe we’ll have our Earth in somewhat of an alternate reality. Coeurls would be cougars. Cactaurs would be stationary needle shooting cacti. Bombs would be flying remote control bombs. They have a basis for how to reinterpret our world if it had been fantasy. They’d just have to do it. How can they reinterpret the jobs, enemies, and setting of our world into a Final Fantasy game?
Think of how they treated Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. They tried. Final Fantasy XVI could succeed.
Maybe we’ll get Noctis and Luna as cameos? Maybe as King and Queen in a country, our characters have to defend? It would be like a sequel, without actually being a sequel. I think that would be pretty cool. Of course, more Final Fantasy XV?
