So why do all monsters in Final Fantasy seem to attack you? The tradition answer is they’re hostile. That makes sense in Final Fantasy VII as well, but I think theirs a hidden element.
Hojo creates all of the monsters you encounter. So then each monster:
- has the same cells and,
- has a certain amount of aggression.
Every monster attacks your characters as if of the same mind. And this is what I think is going on here. Hojo injected Jenova cells into each of these monsters. Each monster is in turn controlled by Sephiroth, trying to stop you from fulfilling your quest.
The same thing might happen if Shinra troop simulated the action of one neuron in the brain, using telephones or walkie-talkies. Each Shinra troop would act as if they were a neuron (i.e. transmitting information). They’d communicate by special two-way radio in a corresponding way with other troops.
But would it be an actual mind? It would be the will of Shinra. Would this arrangement have a mind or consciousness in the same way that brains do?
The same would go for all monsters in Gaia, who act with the same purpose. Would each monster, even though coincidentally functioning with the same purpose, act as a “Monster mind”?
In this sense, the mind of every monster is the mind of Sephiroth, controlled through Jenova.
What do you think?
