With what would you fill in the missing blanks? Any I miss?
The Final Fantasy I had a very weak narrative structure. The MMOs seem to include a mixture of each. I would place the new conflicts as:
- Man vs The Empire – Final Fantasy II
- Man vs The Supernatural – Final Fantasy III
- Man vs Self – Final Fantasy IV
- Man vs Adventure – Final Fantasy V
- Man vs Technology – Final Fantasy VI
- Man vs Nature – Final Fantasy VII
- Man vs Time – Final Fantasy VIII
- Man vs Life – Final Fantasy IX
- Man vs God – Final Fantasy X
- Man vs Society – Final Fantasy XII
- Man vs Fate – Final Fantasy XIII
- Man vs Man – Final Fantasy XV
Next, we have Final Fantasy XVI.
But there aren’t as many narrative conflicts that Final Fantasy can explore. Perhaps Man vs Space? Man vs Crystals?
Regardless, I think the series will end when the developers explore all narrative conflicts. They might be able to pull out twenty more narrative conflicts, maybe even repeating others. Who knows what’s in the future for Final Fantasy’s future?
Of course, I could be wrong about any of this. What do you think?
Notice how each with little character development, certain conflict narratives are missing from the game. Each character fights against a man, only later to fight against a god. Each narrative conflict appears at least once in some form in each Final Fantasy game. Only, I listed what I think are the major ones.
