I was reading this Kotaku article.
Who got it from this guy’s website.
And he’s as wrong as he’s fundamentally a self-proclaimed racist.
First, this whole post is to condemn “Americans” for having a white default preference yet is OK with Japan’s Japanese preference as the “Default Human Being”. And the author is from the West Indies? Hmmm…wut?
Don’t get me wrong, he has a point. America is majority white, but it isn’t a “white” country. America is a nation of immigrants from all around the world and is slowly becoming a multicultural country with diverse skin colors. It’s transcending being a country of just one skin color. But the above was important for what he says next…
Second, when he says “Americans” he means “white”. I guess the default American is white in his mind, which makes him racist against minorities and an upholder of white supremacy. And he is a “minority” (West Indies heritage) with American citizenship.
Third, why does it matter? The Japanese consider anime/Final Fantasy characters Japanese in a sense, whereas the West considers anime/Final Fantasy characters Western. Sometimes it’s the reverse. And it never really should matter. So it’s a win-win situation. Yet the skin and hair choice of these Eurasian (i.e. “hafu” ハーフ in Japanese terminology) looking characters makes the characters look exotic to the Japanese, so technically shouldn’t the racist also condemn Japan for racial exoticising?
Then again, some people get it:
“Why do the Japanese draw themselves as Caucasians?”
Thank you to everyone else, who’s not apart of the problem.
