1. CAIT SITH’S SCOTTISH ACCENT
Cait Sith is easily the worst part of Final Fantasy VII. A mascot robot with a cat on top just stands out like a sore thumb. Luckily, he is only mandatory for a few scenes before you can dump him out of the party forever.
Advent Children and Dirge of Cerberus manage to make Cait Sith even more annoying by giving him a horrible Scottish accent. His brogue is about as convincing as Fat Bastard’s accent in the Austin Powers movies. Thankfully, Cait Sith doesn’t talk much in Advent Children and Dirge of Cerberus, so the fans aren’t tortured too much.
The Final Fantasy VII remake is going to feature voice acting for all of its scenes. If we have to listen to Cait Sith’s awful Scottish accent throughout the whole game, then the remake will be doomed to failure.
In the event that Cait Sith does have a Scottish accent in this remake, annoyed fans will just have wait for the Final Fantasy VIII remake. Squall might have been a jerk, but at least he didn’t say much.
Oh no, not the fan favorite!
To my surprise, Scott doesn’t want to remove Cait Sith himself. Most people would want to, as he really doesn’t care for him as a character. Even Scott agrees Cait Sith just doesn’t really seem to fit in the game. Scott welcomes the idea of dumping “him out of the party forever”. But then, he plays such an integral part in the story. Cait Sith connects our characters to Shinra. I can see why removing Cait Sith would be a horrible decision.
Then again, the surprising thing he does want to remove is actually: his accent. The accent was just Reeve’s way of disguising his voice while talking to the party. I think? Cait Sith is also an autonomous automaton himself; he can move and talk on his own. So then, I’m not sure why Cait Sith has the accent he has either.
The accent is also a reference to his origins: Cait Sith is a “fairy creature from Celtic mythology”. Seems like the Scottish accent is in accordance with Cait Sith’s conception, so it’s here to stay. We can only hope that the voice actors are talented enough to not make Cait Sith an ear sore. And Dazz316 agrees:
God yes, get rid. The only people to pull off a Scottish accent are Scottish people and Dwarves. Unless you’re coming at me at 4ft tall saying rally-ho go away.
Then again, most of us couldn’t stand Cait Sith even when he didn’t talk.
