5. CARRY ARMOR
Carry Armor is one of the most annoying boss battles in the entire Final Fantasy series. Players encounter the Carry Armor during the sequence when the party is trying to track down all of the huge Materias. This involves traveling to the Underwater Reactor in Junon, where there are submarines docked.
Reno of the Turks uses one of the cargo loading robots to slow the party down. Shinra Corporation really needs to decommission all of its fighting robots and just make an army of Carry Armors, as one of them almost manages to take down Cloud and his friends on its own.
The reason the Carry Armor is so difficult is that it has the ability to pick up and immobilize two of your party members. If it manages to kill the third party member, then it is game over. You essentially have to win the whole battle with a single party member, which is why many fans want it out of the remake.
So Scott does want to cut Carry Armor. But it seemed as if he wanted Schizo cut due to ill-timing and placement. Here, Carry Armor is just too difficult.
To be fair, you do have to fight a boss battle after Schizo and Jenova Death. And this boss battle can be immensely frustrating because it has the ability to remove your players from the fight:
Carry Armor can grab and immobilize two random characters and the arms will do damage to each character until they are defeated. The arms will hold onto each character until the corresponding arm is defeated. Its powerful Lapis Laser attack can deal overwhelming damage unless protected and may use it as the first attack before battle starts.
Sure, Carry Armor might slow players down, but what’s wrong with a challenge?
It seems you’ll be able to switch between party members in your three-person team. Since Carry Armor only has two arms, you’ll still have a fighting shot to defeat it. Players might have flashbacks to Final Fantasy XIII, when it was game over if the party leader fell. I’m sure you’ll have the ability to dodge the grab this time around. For the remake, keep your Lightning stocked on the characters you don’t want to be in its grasp. Then blast away. You’ll defeat it eventually. I welcome the challenge, and I say that now but how hard can it be?
