Maybe you just need to reinterpret the plot to modern day standards…
Spiran Sinning began around the Machina War between Bevelle and Zanarkand a thousand years ago. On an industrial scale, Sinning began when a summoner of Zanarkand planned to defeat Bevelle and preserve Zanarkand forever. It was nothing but a load of blubber, so to speak.
The Al Bhed continued to hunt Sin using the scientific research provision in the agreement. The Church of Yu Yvon currently conducts Spiran sinning. Under Yu Yevon allows sacrifices under provisions, although most Al Bhedians oppose it. Shops sell leftover Sin meat from these “scientific” hunts, converting the rest to a funny smelling perfume.
Auron has various lines of perfumes and colognes, including Farplane and Eternal Calm. Auron Cosmetics Company (ACC) maintains his perfumes and the corresponding fragrance lines. A Bevelle company, Yu Yevon, Inc. of Zanarkand, bought the fragrance licensing agreements.
Seymour Guado, the top spokesperson of the product, remarked:
We Guado are familiar with the scent of the Farplane.
Famous Blitzballers endorse the fragrance, including Jecht and his son Tidus, the latter who loves the smell.
