The false advertisement of Final Fantasy VII is more than video games.
This is a corporation that blatantly pushed false advertisement until the very end (and only at the end to give themselves an out and claim the benefit of the doubt).
They lied to us. One would be without self respect if they were OK with someone lying to get their money.
This is why businesses all around think they can do this, because there’s people who don’t want us to take lying to our faces for profit seriously.
It’s high time we do, because if we don’t, you’re going to continue to see a lot worse in other areas.
Saving face and making excuses for this behavioris why corporations take advantage of us.
Square Enix alluded that the remake would more or less be Final Fantasy VII. They only shown us stuff they believed would fool us into thinking this. This is undeniable throughout trailers, interviews and stage talks.
Then they pulled a bait and switch at the very end by inventing new nonsense that clearly alludes the remake is not Final Fantasy VII, but rather an alternate reality that incorporates the nonsense of Advent Children: Final Fantasy and time travel.
No one wanted that, and they knew it, so they lied about what they were giving us just to ship it out. That’s what they clearly lied about.
Most of us did not want a 1:1 remake, but it would have been better if they had. Of course, we accepted a new battle system. We accepted new dialogue and story elements. We did not accept a retcon.
Square Enix knew what they were doing, and they did it in bad faith.
I will move on eventually, after I warn as many people to these predatory business shenanigans as I can. But we should never forget.
We shouldn’t have to make compromises after we were lied to. Trust me, companies are waiting for us to calm down, so they can emerge from the rubble scratch-free and do the same thing they did to us all over again.
Calm is a good thing, but not when it leads to sacrificing our dignity as customers.
“Not as advertised” should be one of the biggest sins in business.
Final Fantasy VII Remake is a scam.
