The more I see news about the Final Fantasy VII Remake, and the more they spend time producing several games in this so-called series, the more I wish we were just getting a new main line Final Fantasy game.
I hear they are devoting a lot of time and resources to making Final Fantasy VII Remake filled with new content. A majority of the in house staff has been relegated to making this project. OK. Great.
But that’s when I realize we’re really missing out on Square Enix producing more main line Final Fantasy games. In the time it has been taking them to make Final Fantasy VII Remake (from a little before 2015 to 2020) they could have had Final Fantasy XVI on the way, if not finished. And by the time Final Fantasy VII Remake wraps up, whenever that is, I wonder how many main line Final Fantasy games we would’ve gotten.
This isn’t to say they won’t make Final Fantasy XVI alongside Final Fantasy VII Remake’s in the future. If they were working on Final Fantasy VII Remake during the later half of Final Fantasy XV, they could probably start Final Fantasy XVI soon after they finish Final Fantasy VII Remake (Part 1) – whenever that will be. I hope they do, at least. Maybe they’re working on it right now?
But I doubt it.

I just want something brand new, something that isn’t like what I’ve seen before, something that’s not familiar but feels like Final Fantasy. In the meantime, I’ll wait.
