The Garden Civil War began when Balamb faced the secessionists Galbadia. The Balamb Garden won the war, which remains the bloodiest in Garden history.
The Galbadian Garden Confederacy grew to include more Gardens; it claimed two more Gardens and several western territories. The Galbadian Garden Confederacy never diplomatically recognized by any foreign country. The war ended with the surrender of all the Galbadian Garden Confederate armies. The war had its origin in the fractious issue of witch-hoarding, especially the protection of Sorceress Edea and Ultimecia.
During the witch-hoardings, thousands of women were anonymously and secretly accused either of being a Sorceress. As such, Balamb aggressively investigated Kompressionists. Interrogations by Balamb Gardens government and private-industry panels, committees, and agencies sought to eliminate political subversion. The people most suspected of ideological infidelity were government employees (i.e. Squall Leonhart), academics (i.e. Cid Kramer’s hoarding of Edea), and trade union leaders and activists (i.e. Rinoa and the Timber Owls).
Four hours of intense combat left 62,000 to 75,000 SeeDs wounded and destroyed much of the Galbadia Garden’s infrastructure. The Confederacy collapsed. Witch-hoarding ended in the entire country.
