Thanks to MarthdoingMath and S-r-ex for the inspiration!

Nah, not enough
So I decided to expand on this idea. Let me make it clear I don’t think Final Fantasy IX copied Dragonball. I’m just listing the coincidences.
Cheerful, tenacious and also a bit naive, Goku is a Saiyan originally sent to Earth as an infant with the mission to destroy it. However, an accident alters his memory, causing him to grow up pure-hearted and later become Earth’s greatest defender, as well as the informal leader of the Z Fighters.
Zidane began his life as an “Angel of Death” created by Garland, the ruler of the dead planet Terra.
Kuja, infuriated by Garland’s decision to create another Genome, deposited Zidane on Gaia and abandoned him. Young Zidane, unaware of his mission, was found by Baku at the age of four, and was raised by him as a member of the Tantalus Theater Troupe in Lindblum only remembering one thing of his previous life: a blue light.
Super Saiyan is an advanced transformation assumed by extraordinarily powerful members and hybrids of the Saiyan race in the Dragon Ball franchise, though there have also been occurrences of other races or individuals taking on their own versions of the form. Humans (of Saiyan heritage) in Dragon Ball Online can also assume the transformation by wishing to have their dormant Saiyan powers unlocked.
In Final Fantasy IX:
Trance is the Limit Break system in Final Fantasy IX that temporarily transforms a character into a more powerful form, increasing all physical damage by a factor of 1.5x (except for Steiner, who becomes even more powerful). While in Trance party members have their innate unique skills enhanced in some fashion.
Also, Genomes have blue eyes and blonde hair.
They both have tails, ala “Journey to the West”. They also both have older brothers who antagonize them. Garnet is a princess, much like Chichi. Vivi is like Krillin, in that both will die (only one will not be reborn). But then Vivi is also like Gohan, as Zidane mentors him. Of course, these are where the similarities stop, because the stories are fundamentally different. I guess Amarant is like Piccolo, seeing they’re both standoffish. Steiner is Mr. Satan (especially in goofiness). Quina is Mr. Popo (especially in contrast). Freya (or should it be Mikoto) is Android 18. Eiko is a little girl (…I couldn’t find any parallels; maybe you can?)
It goes without saying that Dragon Quest inspired Final Fantasy. Dragon quest’s main artist: Akira Toriyama. Akira Toriyama drew Dragonball. Full circle. Coincidence?
…just saiyan. sigh…
