SeeD and the Balamb Gardens as Contractualism:
SeeD is a mercenary force for hire, conducting global missions for battle support and undercover operatives. Governments and civilians requested their services; their tasks range from providing military support to protecting civilians to slaying monsters. The follow two specific doctrines:
- Libertarianism, which advocates the demise of the state as a system based on coercion,
- Contractualism, a political theory which advocates individuals must give up their natural rights to join in freedom and equality
Fisherman’s Horizon Mayor Dobe and Flo as Liberalism:
The heart of society is the principle of freedom, whereas the state must protect individual liberty. They don’t believe in war and do not engage in global conflict. They’re also steadfast pacifists. They believe in resolving all issues through discussion and compromise (even when faced with the need to defend themselves).
Timber Forest Owls as a representation of Anarchism:
Anarchism is the refusal of any power or authority, the only value is the individual’s own values . Timber is a city in Final Fantasy VIII under the martial law against the Galbadian Army. The Forest Owls is a resistance group. They try to free the small nation Timber from the tyranny of the Galbadian Republic. In destroying the establishment of Galbadian army, Timber can become self-governed once again.
The Sorceress as Feminism:
Feminism is a philosophical movement that seeks the total emancipation of women, both political and societal. Sorceresses are women who have received the sorceress power. Ultimecia plots to take control of to world to liberate the Sorceress from oppression. Ultimecia desires a singularity and to control all time. By controlling all time, she controls space in a subtle form communism.
The Galbadian Army as Fascism:
An authoritarian and nationalistic right-wing system of government and social organization. The Republic of Galbadia is one of the greatest political powers in Final Fantasy VIII. It is an aggressive and invasive wars. military dictatorship under the command of Vinzer Deling.
