Thanks to kojitsuke for the inspiration!
Ideally it could just be a homage to VI without actually being considered in the same timeline or space. But use themes of magitek, espers, etc.
A man can dream.
And wouldn’t it be the perfect setting for Agni’s Philosophy? I doubt they’d want to make a prequel to the great Final Fantasy VI.
Well, then there’s Final Fantasy IV: The After Year.
Might they reappropriate the famous story to Agni’s Philosophy, morphing it into Final Fantasy XVI? Sure. It might not have Espers and Magicite. But it has all of the elements of a great war of over magic. It could be the first Final Fantasy set in a great magic war, as all of the others have been set afterwards.
Which sounds similar to other Magical Wars, including the one set up in Agni’s philosophy:
In a temple before an impending solar eclipse a group of red-robed mages and their crystal-wielding Grandmaster are attempting to summon a sacred dragon. Partway through the ritual armed men storm the temple and attack the mages. One mage, Agni, fights alongside the others to protect the Grandmaster but takes a hit on her arm. Despite the mages’ efforts all but Agni fall, and the Grandmaster is gravely wounded. He hands the crystal to Agni, who escapes to the streets the armed men in hot pursuit. As the men release a mutated hyena, Agni loses her human pursuers before healing her bullet wounds with an enchanted bottle of water. The hyena catches up with her and pins her down, but Agni uses the crystal to summon the dragon from the temple. The dragon destroys the hound, and Agni climbs on its back and soars to the skies, revealing a gleaming futuristic city on the horizon.
That’s right. I’m not saying Final Fantasy XVI will be the prequel of Final Fantasy VI. I think it may revolve around the War of the Magi.
Fitting, as Final Fantasy Sixteen would be somewhat of a spiritual successor to Final Fantasy Six.
