You might think the title of ‘Batman’ should go to Shadow (who I’d say would be like Wolverine). But when you look at Vincent in Dirge of Cerberus, all the parallels will make sense.
Vincent is essentially an anti-hero; he’s not unheroic, but he’s not an idealized hero like Superman or Cecil. He’s dark, brooding, and somewhat mysterious. Plus, he’ll always seem to come up with a perfect way out of a difficult situation.
…in the cutscenes at least.
To match Vincent’s personality, the game is dark and gritty. Most of the places Vincent does visit look as if it could be somewhere in Gotham City. He does brood in a large bedroom in Kalm, watching the news and feeling sorry for his loved one he could not save (.i.e Lucrecia and his father Grom).
Reeves is “commissioner” in Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII. He summons Vincent to work with his organization. Vincent prefers to go his own way. But he eventually obliges to help, on his own terms. Cait Sith has a cape and might appeal to children. Therefore, he’s a Robin-figure sidekick to Vincent…that Vincent would never ever team up with. Unlike Robin, Cait Sith is a sentient automaton cat.
But Dirge of Cerberus was first.
Yuffie Kisaragi is Harley Quinn in personality, but Catwoman in terms of skill (I guess). Shalua Rui sounds like Talia al-Ghul, looks like Poison Ivy.
The members of DeepGround are like Batman’s Rogue Gallery. Strongman Azul the Cerulean is like Bane. Rosso the Crimson is, again, kinda like Talia al-Ghul, but sounds like her Russian daughter Nyssa Raatko. Nero the Sable relies on fear, much like Scarecrow. And Professor Hojo would be a dead ringer for Professor Hugo (Strange). Weiss the immaculate might be a strange mix of Joker and Victor Zsasz, with a Japanese haircut. I can’t think of who Shelke the Transparent is like, maybe Oracle (former Batgirl)?
Of course, Vincent uses guns. To kill people. This makes Vincent anti-Batman. He’s not nearly as cerebral, or stealthy. Maybe if he were a ninja. Plus, he’s not rich – unless he sold a ton of mastered ‘All’ Materia.
