Usually, when someone says something is “the best”, they’re using a superlative of the highest degree. This necessarily means you’re comparing that thing with others similar to it. Out of them all, that thing is greatest.
Judging something as “the best” is up to personal taste. Video games can never be an objective value statement. And if something is still “the best”, it would have to stand up to others after it.
Final Fantasy VI, I think, is a really great game…for its time.
It did a lot of things in videos games…during its time.
It did everything right for critics and game reviews…in 1994.
When critics and game reviewers called Final Fantasy VI the best game of all time, they meant up to that point.
And even then, that sounds like an exaggeration.
So what about Final Fantasy VI still makes it “the best” out of all the games after it?
