White mages have incredible healing abilities that can save even the most mortally wounded from the afterlife’s grasp. In the games, they can fully restore health points, remove ailments, and revive party members who have been out of commission in battle. For some reason though, they are completely helpless to restore their own health when the story calls for some drama.
This specific image references Final Fantasy IV, when Rosa falls ill to Desert Fever forcing Cecil to search for the only item that can cure her. Not once does anybody bring up the possibility of her trying to cure herself or at least finding another white mage to cast a spell on her. Really this is only one example of many in the long-running franchise.
Good question and I don’t know. I guess this is kind of similar to doctors getting sick. They’re human too, and their profession doesn’t ward sickness.
Rosa gets sick walking in the desert to find Cecil. I know Cure raises HP, but for whatever reason, it does nothing for Desert Fever. Makes sense, you wouldn’t drink Gatorade to cure Malaria. Either way, it’s Esuna that should do the trick. One important thing to keep in mind: magic cures magic. That is if you have the Poison status, cast Esuna. If you have Desert Fever, you’re going to need a Sand Pearl. The illness you have isn’t magic, and white mages probably can’t cure it.
Porom and her brother Palon turned themselves into stone. The Elder said we couldn’t turn them back since they did so with their own accord. But he was wrong. Either way, Porom can’t do anything if she’s petrified.
This is similar to Aerith. Technically, she should be able to cast life. But casting Life on yourself while you’re alive does nothing. You can’t cast Life on yourself when you’re unconscious. Someone else would have to do so. Phoenix Downs would work too. You don’t need to be a White mage to throw one of those on your fallen comrade. There’s only one problem with this: Aerith isn’t unconscious. She’s dead. And you can’t bring your dead friend to life with magical items.
What about Garnet? She doesn’t have a physical illness. She’s not petrified or death. She’s has silence status. Well, kind of. She just can’t concentrate. Even if she were, she can’t use magic to cure herself. Healing her voice takes confidence and time.
But I agree, this is just for the sake of the story.
