We all remember the opening: future Noctis fights Ifrit in a future battle of what’s to come.
Interesting cold opening to introduce us to…the ending.
But then you watch this:
Wow!
Of course, this isn’t the opening.
But why not?
With this video, we’d see why King Regis wanted an entourage for his prince (emphasizing Brotherhood). It would have introduced Bahamut and the crystal. It would introduce us to the action and combat of the game (the warp striking). It would have introduced us to Umbra. Ghost Luna and her dying by Noctis’ hands would be contrasted by Ardyn’s killing of her. Noctis’ sending off would tie into Kingsglaive’s events. Why isn’t Noctis’ send-off in Kingsglaive when he appears in the post-credit scene?
Kid Noctis’ curious “chosen one” comments would have all made sense throughout the story. The fact that Noctis’ weapons would be limited in the later chapter would have been foretold by this omen. The OMEN trailer would have tied up a lot of the loose ends before they happened. The OMEN trailer is exciting and makes its original opening lazy in comparison. This opening would be the greatest opening since Final Fantasy VIII.
With an AAA title, you need a strong opening with an equally powerful song. Look at Final Fantasy VIII’s opening.
Of course, time was tight and Tabata wisely didn’t want to spend more time with programming.
He made a masterpiece, but there’s only so much he could do under pressure.
We can only hope they add The Omen trailer as the official introduction in the patch.
Either way, great video, and great game!
