“No, that is not true,” Kitase said, laughing. “I think he was actually stabbed around the shoulder area, so he was not dead. But that is a very interesting idea, so if we ever do make a remake of Final Fantasy VIII, I might go along with that story in mind.”
This announcement disappointed quite a few people. Yet, I know many who are happy that the theory, and not Squall, is dead.
But Kitase thinks it’s not true,
“I think he was actually stabbed around the shoulder area, so he was not dead.“
and the evidence was in the actual footage. Let’s analyze the video footage at Edea’s parade, leading up to the event of Squall’s “death”:
(This is the key shot.)
The ice shard is going back to his right. Shot from the front and her left. The frame itself is shot above the heart area. Totally inconsistent with the shot to his heart, as stated in the Squall’s Dead theory.
The frame itself is shot above the heart area, totally inconsistent with Squall’s Dead “shot to his heart” theory.
Again, to his shoulder – back and to the right … back and to the right … back and to the right … completely missing his heart. Back and to the right … back and to the right … back and to the right …
As Squall slumps backward, we can see Rinoa scrambling away from Edea with her arms outstretched (she’s grabbing for Squall). This is in the sight of nearly thousands, if not millions, due to the fact that it was caught on film.
So then how did Squall survive the fall? Take a look at the float itself. It’s a float. The height he fell from wouldn’t even be a second story. And who knows, maybe Edea cast ‘float’ from her float to float Squall’
s boat who was floating from the float to cushion his falls.
But even then, it’s a fantasy so the rules can afford to be a little wonky.
Kitase remarked he might incorporate the Squall’s dead theory into a potential remake. He’s hoping for 2019, the 20th anniversary of Final Fantasy VIII. No doubt this concept might also appear as an ambiguous ending, such as did Squall really survive Time Compression?
